Self-reliance and a healthy work environment

Challenge

Säter Municipality has completed an LSS housing with 6 places in a quiet location, nestled in the residential area of the Odalmannen neighborhood in Säter, Dalarna. The housing, which was ready for occupancy in the fall of 2023, is now fully occupied in all 6 apartments. In addition, the building also includes common areas, staff areas, and a pleasant garden.

Odalmannen Säter aims to benefit from technological advancements to support their residents in becoming as self-reliant as possible. The apartments, with a kitchen, bedroom, living room, and bathroom, have plenty of space and are well-equipped with, among other things, height-adjustable washbasins and toilets.

Strategy

To ensure great support for the residents while also ensuring a healthy work environment for the staff, the apartments have complete bathroom furnishings with electrically height-adjustable toilets with built-in armrests. This provides the resident with the correct sitting height and facilitates transfers to and from the toilet as well as standing up. The armrest is equipped with a toilet paper holder to always have the paper within reach.

Solution

The height-adjustable toilet has a hand control that can be operated either by the resident or the staff. Hand controls that are used frequently are conveniently attached to the armrest. When rarely used, it can be hung on a hook on the side of the cistern. The height-adjustable function ensures that each resident always has the correct sitting height. Additionally, the toilet can be used as a standing aid for those who need it. A major advantage is that the toilet fixture can be showered on, which facilitates both user showers and toilet cleaning.
A practical hook on the height-adjustable toilet is perfect for “parking” the hand control when it is rarely used.

Result

Plenty of space combined with the height-adjustable function on the washbasin and toilet provides a very good working environment for the staff. The height adjustable bathroom solutions have helped enable safe and independent morning routines at Odalmannen Säter. The washbasin is equipped with sturdy grip handles with recessed contrast for a clear grip. The washbasins are also equipped with a manual height-adjustable function so that the height can easily be adjusted to the height of the different apartment residents. The shallow washbasin allows easy access underneath with the knees when sitting in a wheelchair.
