At the care home Ørbygaard in Rødovre, in January 2020, they were able to mark the completion of the construction of 82 modern nursing homes for the elderly and the demented.
Challenge: Creating modern assisted living
When Ørbygaard Care Home in Rødovre, Denmark, completed a major redevelopment in January 2020, the goal was to create modern assisted living residences that promote independence, dignity and wellbeing for elderly residents, including people living with dementia.
The redevelopment resulted in 82 new apartments—64 one-room and 18 two-room residences—designed with improved facilities and contemporary accessibility solutions to meet residents’ changing needs.
Strategy: Designing homes around residents’ individual abilities
The ambition was to provide residents with modern homes equipped with welfare technology that enables them to remain as independent as possible in their daily routines. At the same time, the solutions should support caregivers by creating a safer and more ergonomic working environment.
By combining accessible design with adjustable bathroom solutions, each apartment can accommodate different mobility levels and changing care needs over time.

Solution: Flexible bathroom solutions that adapt to every resident
The bathrooms are equipped with the SwingLine Washbasin, featuring electric height adjustment, lateral adjustment and integrated front grab rails. This enables each resident to position the washbasin according to their individual needs while providing stable support during everyday hygiene routines.
The bathrooms also include Toilet Supports, helping residents sit down and stand up safely and independently whenever possible. User-friendly cabinets, grab rails and shower rails further increase safety and accessibility throughout the bathroom.
Together, these solutions create bathrooms that are comfortable, flexible and accessible for both residents and caregivers.

Result: Greater independence and improved working conditions
The new assisted living residences at Ørbygaard support residents in maintaining their independence for as long as possible while improving safety and comfort during daily activities.
At the same time, the ergonomic bathroom solutions reduce physical strain for caregivers and contribute to a better working environment. The result is a modern care home where accessible design enhances both residents’ quality of life and staff well-being.
